Summer 2012 Hairstyles

It is summer, it is hot, it is humid and that is a bad combination for our hair..but don't fret these are my top hair styles/trends I am loving
 for this Summer!

Braids
Braids are everywhere..this summer.  They are no longer just for 10 year old girls we too can sport them with pride. You can do the basic braid, french or dutch braid straight down your back.  You can do these braids smooth or messy and hang over your shoulder. So many ways..You can braid a side section and cross it over the back of your hair or braid down one side and pull it into one fo the styles below like a bun or ponytail. Either way find a way that suits you best and that you love!

High Crown Buns
I love a good bun. I know some people think its channeling your old librarian but buns can be really chic, they are classic and you can do them in no time!I love this combination below, braid up the back but pulled into a bun. This is perfect for a casual day with sandals and big shades or heels and a dress for a special occasion. You can do the smooth and sophisticated bun or the messy bun.

Hair Wraps
Hair Wraps, are all the rage. Be sure to pick the right wrap or band for you. They need to really fit your style and be worn with confidence.  Hair Wraps are a big deal and are all over the Summer Runways.  They are stylish, help hold your baby strays back and can add something different to something very simple. I think a pop of color on the lip is the perfect ending to this trend. If you sport a head wrap, I would keep jewelry simple and let this be your main accessory piece, maybe a funky bracelet and ring or some hoops but go less.

Beach Waves
This look has been around forever. There are a ton of ways to do this. Add salt to a spray bottle filled with warm water, spray and scrunch.  or  my current favorite, when you get out of the shower at night, work a anti frizz cream into your hair and then braid your hair (if you have long thick hair part your hair in half and create two braids), securing with a hair tie.  When you wake up in the morning undo the braids and use a straightner to help smooth down the crown of your head and if you have a few dull pieces you can use a curling iron to fix some of the strays.

Ponytails
Ponytails will always be in a girls go to styles because its the easiest way to get your hair up and out of your face or if your having a bad hair day to tie it back is a quick solution. But since we arent 10 anymore take an extra 2 minutes and had a little extra umph to that pony.  My favorite is do a low pony about 2 inches above the nape of your neck (hairline).  I start out by twisting or braiding the side pieces of my hair, being sure to keep the middle section smooth. Combine all three sections, and secure with a rubberband.  Take a small section from the left or right and wrap it around the rubberband and tucking it into the bottom of the rubberband.  Then take your curling iron or a teasing comb and add some body to the back of the pony or use the iron and make it sleek and straight!

The Hottest Color Trend- OMBRE

This trend is everywhere, requested at salons and being done at home watching youtube videos.  This color trend basically starts with your roots and crown being a darker shade and gradually gets lighter.  It almost looks like you have dipped your middle to ends of your hair in a lighter color creating amazing depth and texture to your hair. This especially looks good on layered hair because it really gives your hair a lot of interest and plays off the different layers.

The Chignon
Very similar to a bun but usually constructed in a messier style with hairs hanging out. It usually is positioned to the back right or left of the base of your neck.

  2. Thanks for the comment. Yah I know how you feel, i have med to long curly hair and sometimes you just need a change. One thing I do often is if i want the braid to look sleek ill run an iron over my hair to knock out the curly so the hair looks more smooth.
